Kathleen T. “Kathy” Kelly, nee Vahey of Chicago, passed away on September 9, 2025. For 56 years, she was the devoted and loving wife of John. Wonderful mother to Maureen (Jorge) Perez, Colleen (Tom) Hogan, Kathleen (Dan) Kelly Colgan and Megan Kelly. Most loved Meemaw of Eileen, Johnny and MaryKate Hogan; Caroline, Brendan, Patrick and Nora Colgan; Jack, Matthew and Kate Perez. Kathy was the dear sister of the late Mary (John) Joyce, the late Sally (the late Joseph) Gleeson, Brenda (John) Landers and John (Ari) Vahey. She was the fond sister-in-law of Sister Finian, Martin (Barbara), Sister Catherine, Agnes (Ed) Connolly, Julia (Bill) Birt, Celia (Myles) Joyce, Coleman (Mary), Tommie, Rita Barrett, and Nora Gannon, all of whom preceded her in death. Caring and beloved aunt of dozens of nieces and nephews from the Kelly, Connolly, Gannon, Birt, Joyce, Gleeson, Landers and Vahey families. Kathy will be missed by her fur friend Winnie and will be happy to see her dear Buddy again. She was also preceded in death by her parents Brendan and Eileen Vahey and in laws Thomas and Margaret Kelly.

 

Kathy was a woman of deep faith, a lifelong Cubs fan, everyone’s best friend, a Christmas cookie legend, the best peach jello maker, a holiday hoster extraordinaire, a quick wit and the person who held us all together. She was deeply loved and will be deeply missed.

 

Visitation Friday September 12th from 3-8 pm. Funeral Saturday September 13th at 10:30am at Mary Seat of Wisdom Church. Interment- All saints Cemetery.

 

In lieu of flowers, donations to Misericordia https://www.misericordia.com/giving/donate-online/ or the American Lung Association https://www.lung.org/ appreciated.
