Carroll (Mitchelstown and Glenroe) on March 13th, 2023, peacefully, in the wonderful care of all at Abbeylands Nursing Home, Kildorrery, Mary Carroll, 10 Abbeyview, Mitchelstown and formerly of U.S.A, and Glenroe. Co. Limerick.
Mary is now happily reunited with her parents Michael and Mary, brother David and sisters Patricia and Norita. She is survived by her sister Kit (England) and brother Michael (Charleville).
Those who knew and loved Mary, were very much taken by her outlook on life. She was an engaging conversationalist with people of all ages. A keen lover of current affairs up to the very end, Mary enjoyed reading and catching up through radio on the latest national and international news and talkshows, all of which made for the most riveting of conversations where the hours would quickly pass by in her company.
Mary had a wonderful imagination and a gift for storytelling and adventure that made her beloved by children. Although she did not have children of her own, she was a deeply loved aunt, friend and nanny to many.
Mary was a lover of travel having travelled a lot in her adult years. She travelled to many cities in Europe, Japan and the US from which she had many fond memories and stories that she would openly share. Even in her later years she would regularly enjoy going on trips to up to Cork City on the bus, or drives down to Ardmore in Co. Waterford or even more locally to Doneraile Country park, where she would enjoy the fresh air and the sights and sounds of nature.
Mary also prided herself on her wonderful garden, and took great pleasure from watching the many birds that would visit her prized umbrella tree.
She was a private person and those who were fortunate to know and visit her will miss the chats but will take comfort in knowing that she was not afraid of her mortality and was ready to go. Mary was truly a fascinating lady who lived a long, varied and happy life. She will be very much missed and fondly remembered by those who knew her well.
May she rest in peace.
Sadly missed by her loving brother, sister, sister-in-law Nora, brother-in-law Ken, nephews, nieces, relatives, neighbours and friends.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes her remains were cremated privately on Monday.
