Mary P. Colleran nee Moffitt, January 8th, 2025.
It is with much sadness that we announce the passing of Mary. She went to her eternal rest peacefully in the wonderful care of the staff of St. Joseph’s Manor and Holy Redeemer Hospice.
Mary was born in Charlestown County Mayo Ireland, the eldest of five children. When Mary finished school, like most of her friends, she emigrated to Philadelphia where it was home away from home for her with her Aunt Bea, Uncle Mike and cousins. She soon adapted to the American way of life and was very happy, but Mary never forgot her roots. She made many visits home to her beloved Charlestown. She wrote letters every week and always included a few dollars in them and of course she sent parcels for special occasions.
Later, her sister Kathleen, brother Tommy and sister Attracta joined her. Mary loved to cook, and she was known for her Irish scone.
Mary was a devout Catholic. Her faith was very important to her. She loved the Miraculous Medal and never forgot to attend the Monday novena every week.
Mary is predeceased by her dear husband Jimmy, her parents, John and Margaret Moffitt, her brothers Tommy and Val, her sister Kathleen Boyle and her nephew Michael.
She is survived by her loving sister Attracta, sister-in-lawPhyllis, her brother-in-law Joe, nieces, nephews, cousins, neighbors and friends.
Ar dheis De go raibh a anam dilis.
Viewing and Mass will take place at St Joseph’s Manor Chapel on Thursday January 16th, 2025, and afterwards Mary will be laid to rest at Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Philadelphia Pa. USA.
