Mary Smyth (Sr Carmel), Good Shepherd Convent, Chain Rd, Manchester, and originally from Skryne in County Meath, died peacefully yesterday in a Manchester Hospital at the wonderful age of 95. Mary was a truly remarkable woman, not only because of the contribution she made to so many lives as a Good Shepherd Sister, but also because of who she was as a person – full of life, a well of information, memories and wisdom, and always a joy to be with because of the peace and genuine interest she brought to every relationship.
Her four siblings, Margaret, Patrick, Emily and Brian feel the loss her going will be to their lives but feel enormously grateful to life and to her for all she has given them and will continue to give. Her 14 nephews and nieces and 28 grand nephews and nieces will also feel her absence in their lives because of the attention she gave to every one of them. So too will the many friends and sisters who also enjoyed her
wonderful presence.
Funeral arrangements, which will take place in the Good Shepherd Convent in Manchester, will be announced later. Mary has left very clear instructions on how every detail of her funeral should be handled. That’s Mary still alive and with us!
May she rest in peace.
