Michael Downey

Michael Paul Downey passed away peacefully at home surrounded by family on Tuesday, May 13th 2025 after a short battle with cancer. He was a devoted husband to Eileen Downey (nee Donahue). Michael was an adoring father to Aidan, Alana, and stepson Brian Kavanagh. Michael was born in Dublin, Ireland and moved to his beloved Cork as a young child. He was a loving son to the late John Francis and Nora Downey, and much cherished brother of Frank, Padraig, Treasa, Mary, and the late Breda.

Michael was a family man and Sundays were a special day for him and his family. He loved spending time on his boat and spent many happy days fishing and sailing with dear friends and family. He loved his dogs and fed the neighbourhood stray cats for many years. Michael enjoyed watching soccer, was an avid Buffalo Bills fan, and he followed the Irish news faithfully, paying particular attention to Cork GAA. Michael was a gifted carpenter and loved his work. He left his mark all over New York City and surrounding areas.

Michael was kind, generous, and thoughtful. He always had a smile on his face and made the world a better place. He will be sadly missed by many, including his daughter-in-law Nancy, his nieces and nephews, his extended family and friends.
