Following a brief illness, Michael died peacefully at Ballinderry Nursing Home, Kilconnell, Ballinasloe. where he resided recently. He died on Thursday evening, 15th January, with family by his side.
Predeceased by his parents Margaret and Anthony, sisters Helen and Mary, brothers Mattie and Tony and nephew Brendan Shaughnessy R.I.P.
Michael is mourned and sadly missed by his nieces Siobhán and Beverley, the extended Shaughnessy (Mervue) and O’Hara (Mervue) families, Siobhán’s husband Tommie and grandnephew Graham, Beverley’s husband Colm, grand niece Lauren and grandnephew Nathan, great neighbours on Fursey Road, in particular Mike Quirke and friends.

Funeral Arrangements
Monday, 19th January, 2026
Michael will lie in Repose at the O'Flaherty Funeral Parlour, Munster Avenue, H91V1K8 from 5.30 p.m. to 6.30 p.m. There will be no Removal to the Church this evening.
Tuesday, 20th January, 2026
Requiem Mass will be celebrated for Michael on arrival at St. Joseph's Parish Church, Presentation Road at 11 a.m. and following Mass he will be laid to rest in Rahoon Cemetery. Mass will be live streamed on st-josephs-church-galway - MCN

Please approach the funeral parlour entrance on foot from Fr. Burke Park. Street parking may be available on Fr. Griffin Road, within Claddagh, on Henry Street and Sea Road. Parking is scarce on Munster Avenue.
Car Parks within walking distance of the parlour: The Claddagh Church, Spanish Arch and Mill Street which is adjacent to the Garda Station.
