Michael Viney MRIA, member of Aosdána, artist, author, broadcaster and journalist. (Thallabawn, Louisburgh, Co. Mayo) May 30th 2023:- Peacefully at Mayo University Hospital, with his family by his side. Deeply mourned and sadly missed by his loving wife Ethna (née Mc Manus), daughter Michele (Dublin & Thallabawn), nephews, niece, extended Viney and Mc Manus Families, and a wide circle of friends.

A service  to Celebrate Michael's Life will take place at Lakelands Crematorium, Dublin Road, Cavan (H12 RF78) on Saturday (June 3rd) at 3.00pm.

A Found Poem

 
Your ashes will settle

With instant self-effacement

Into Thallabaun strand,

Sifting among the fragments

Of other worn-out lives,

Tiny scallop fans in pink

And orange, minute cowries

Like rolled-up finger-prints,

Curved tiles from the broken

Domes of sea-urchins

Violet and rose, and here

A broody ringed plover

Nestling down to lay her eggs,

Enfolding crumbs of your skull,

Michael, into the warmth

Of her white breast-feathers.
