Owen Duncan

1947 - 2025

Owen left us peacefully on December 11 following a short illness. Beloved son of Margaret (Gretta) and Patrick Duncan of Ranelagh and much loved brother to Dr. Clive and Erick Duncan. We remember with sweet sadness his wonderful curls and reluctant smile as a child, and in the years to follow, his modesty and quiet laughter during happy times with family and friends. Owen marched to his own drum and took quiet pleasure from everything that life had to offer. He was generous and non-judgemental by nature, and walked among us at a gentle pace. And he had a unique effect on those he met along the way, always leaving them with a sense of increased self worth, simply because he was fascinated by their lives. He seldom spoke about himself though his life had been a success.

We are grateful to our cousins Dr Maura and Ita O’Gara who remained so close in his final weeks and we are indebted to Wendy Whelan and her team at Eastwell Residential Home for their kindness and extraordinary care as his health declined. They were happy years as well.

He was much loved and will be greatly missed by his family and friends in Ireland and his large extended family in Canada.

A Funeral Mass will be held at Church of the Holy Name, Beechwood Avenue on December 18 at 10 am, followed by interment at Shanganagh Cemetery, Shankill.
