Upper Newcastle, Galway, formerly of NUI Galway and originally Carrick-on-Suir, Co. Tipperary
Beloved husband of the late Lois. Sean died peacefully on Tuesday, 11 July in the wonderful care of the staff of St Jarlath’s Ward, Bon Secours Hospital, Galway.
He will be sadly missed by his loving children Siobhan, Brendan, Adrian, Ciaran and Michael, son-in-law Simon, daughters-in-law Kate and Tara, grandchildren Niamh, Rhys, Dylan, Luna, Liam, Joseph, Cara, Daniel, Sean, Oran and Fionn, and by his brothers Liam and Desmond, close family members Ann, Ross, Shane, Eva and Sam Tobin, the extended family, former colleagues and friends.
Sean was professor of mathematics in NUI Galway, and in that time ran the department with a combination of professionalism and good humour. Well regarded by staff and students alike, Sean always endeavoured to offer an open ear and sage counsel regarding problems or concerns his students may have had. He ran the maths department for 35 years, during which he enjoyed his time as a head of department, and as a lecturer; Sean was always happiest in front of a class, sharing his knowledge with the next generation.
