The death has occurred of Dr. Robert Francis McEneaney

Robert (Bob) McEneaney, Knockanish West, Tralee (and formerly of Kilkenny) died peacefully, surrounded by his family, on January 2nd, 2025.

Born in Kilkenny in 1948, Bob (Bobby to those who knew him in his early years), studied Medicine at UCD, training and practicing in various hospitals in Ireland and the US, before he and his wife Catherine eventually settled in Tralee in 1982 to raise their family. Bob was a consultant at Tralee General Hospital (now University Hospital Kerry), where he had a well-earned reputation as a storyteller and a practical joker, in addition to an exceptional career as a tireless and compassionate caregiver for patients and their families. Outside of work, he did his fair share of storytelling and joking, too, and made everyone laugh. He also loved to golf, bike, read, follow horse racing and, despite not loving to fly, plenty of travel. In his retirement, he enjoyed weekly card games with his friends. He will be remembered as the amazing husband, father, grandpa, and friend that he was. We are so grateful for the care he received at UHK, a place where he looked after so many others over the years, and was treated with the same kindness in his last days. As he would always say to us, we sadly say to him, “I’ll love you and leave you now.”

Bob was pre-deceased by his parents Peter and Bridget, his brothers Peter and Patrick (Paddy), his grandson Nicholas, and his nephew Niall. He is survived by his devoted wife Catherine, his beloved children — Sarah, Robert and his wife Katie, Peter and his partner Gabi, his adoring grandchildren Charlie, Eva, Rory and Frankie, his siblings, nieces and nephews, and countless friends and colleagues who mourn his loss and celebrate his remarkable life.

Rest in Peace

Funeral cortège will arrive at the Church of Our Lady and St. Brendan, Upper Rock St., Tralee (V92 XA36) at 10:30am on Wednesday (8th) for Requiem Mass at 11.00am. The service can be viewed on http://www.stbrendansparishtralee.net/ . Private cremation will follow.
