Shelagh Mary Frances Rhatigan

The death has occurred of

Shelagh Mary Frances Rhatigan
(née Tuohy)

Palmerston House, Cliffoney, Sligo

The Rhatigan Family, Cliffoney, wish to share with friends and family that Shelagh Mary Frances Rhatigan (neé Tuohy) formerly of Kenmare, County Kerry and Palmerston House, Cliffoney, passed away, peacefully, gracefully and serenely on Tuesday, January 26th, in the company of family and friends at Nazareth Nursing Home, Sligo.

Shelagh is survived by her brother Eddie, daughters Catherine, Prannie and Margaret, sons in law Andrea, Johnny and Martin, grandchildren Kate, Anna and Hannah, nephews and nieces.

She joins her husband Johnny, brother Jack and sisters Mae, Nancy, and Joan, brother in law, Fr. Eddie Rhatigan and her parents, Julianna and John Tuohy.

Given the current restrictions, Catherine and family cannot safely travel from Europe, nor can family and friends gather for a fitting celebration of her life.

For that reason we have decided that her life and funeral Mass will be celebrated at a later time, when we can all be together freely, and wrap the collective memories of her long life around her with reminiscence and prayer, song and story. As a woman to whom tradition was important, Shelagh Rhatigan will expect a proper wake, won’t mind waiting for one, and will have one, but not now.

Time is of no consequence to Shelagh, now that she knows infinity, and it would be her wish that friends and relatives stay safe, stay home and light a candle for her at this time.

Those of you who would like to can make a donation to either Sligo Hospice, the RNLI Lifeboats, or Guide Dogs for the Blind; all causes for which Shelagh raised funds over the last 45 years.

After prayers with family members and her carer Patricia O Reilly, Shelagh’s remains depart Nazareth House Sligo, and after a brief visit to her beloved Cliffoney, will be laid to rest in peace beside Johnny, in Ahamlish Graveyard.

We wish to thank the nursing staff of Nazareth House, Patsy McGloin, undertaker, and Fr. Christy McHugh for their kindness patience and flexibility at this time.

Condolences can be left on condolence section below or privately on the condolence page of www.mcgloinfunerals.com
