The death has occurred of
Sr. Mary Grace O’Flaherty, R.S.M.
With deep love and sorrow, we announce the death of Sr. Mary Grace O’Flaherty, R.S.M., who peacefully slipped away on 24 February 2026 at the Mercy Centre in Auburn, California.
Born on 31 January 1932 in Knopogue, Ballyduff, Tralee, Co. Kerry, Mary Grace was the youngest child of Matthew Flaherty and Anne Loughnane Flaherty and sister to Bridget (Dalton), Anne (Nance) Boyle, Elizabeth Goulding, Kathleen Flaherty, Mary Ellen Thompson, Eileen Amos, Patrick Flaherty and William Flaherty.
Mary Grace dedicated her life to God and to the service of others as a professed Sister of Mercy (R.S.M.), living the charism of mercy, compassion, and service in the tradition of Catherine McAuley and the worldwide congregation of the Sisters of Mercy.
She lived her later years at Mercy Centre Auburn, a place of spiritual retreat and renewal supported by the Sisters of Mercy in Northern California.
Her vocation touched many lives, both within her community and through her deep personal witness of faith. Her presence and stories of mercy ministries helped inspire her niece Sr. Clare Marie Dalton, RSM, to pursue her own calling to religious life.
Sr. Mary Grace was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephews, offering wisdom, encouragement and guidance in all aspects of life. Her gentle spirit and counsel will be deeply missed by all those who knew her.
She is mourned by her extended family, her religious community, friends, and all who were touched by her life of prayer, service, and compassion.
