“Keep on Smilin’” – Love, Suzy B

Susanne (“Suzy”) Marie Byrne (1962–2026), of Clarinbridge, Galway City, Chicago, Illinois, passed peacefully on February 18, 2026.

Suzy found her home in Galway over 30 years ago, embracing her Irish heritage with the warmth, humor, and directness that made her unique.

Born and raised in Chicago, Suzy earned her Bachelor of Fine Arts from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago, including an Erasmus year at the National College of Art and Design in Dublin.

A gifted and deeply intuitive artist, Suzy created a portfolio of photography, mixed media, and site-specific installations, with her work exhibited in both the United States and Ireland.

Her creativity was not limited to her art; she lived with a talent for finding beauty, absurdity and humor in everyday life.

Suzy had a remarkable gift for friendship and fellowship. She was caring, fiercely loyal, and protective of those she loved. Her adventurous spirit and love of travel led her to form lasting friendships around the world. Wherever she went, she made friends with her wit and candor.

Her home in Galway is remembered as a place of laughter and warmth, where visitors from near and far were always welcome.

Suzy is the cherished daughter of the late Michael and Nadene Byrne, nee Irwin. She is lovingly remembered by her siblings and their families: Michael P. Byrne (Elena), Michael Jr., Evelyn; Mark Byrne; Adrian Byrne (Petra) James and Liam; Kevin Byrne; Laurence Byrne (Donna) Madeleine (Charlie) and Graham; Colinne (Timothy) Hemrich. She will deeply missed by her many cousins across the United States, England and Ireland, and by her wide circle of dear friends whose lives she enriched and who gave her courage to fight on in the hardest and best of times.

Suzy’s creativity, humor, and her reminder to always “Keep on Smilin’” remain with all who know and love her.

Family and friends are gathering to remember Suzy on Saturday February 21st at 6:30 pm at the Galway Rowing Club..
