He leaves behind his devoted wife of 60 years, Maureen (Sullivan) and children Mary (John Dodd), Elizabeth (Wayne Graham), Valerie (Sean Holmes), Timothea (Brendan Mc Laughlin) and TJ (Catrina) in addition to 13 grandchildren and siblings Shiela Fildes, Sean Hegarty, Kathleen Finn, Billy Hegarty and numerous nieces, nephews and many friends.

Big Tim was born on a farm in Dungourney, Co. Cork, Ireland the oldest son of Simon and Bridgit Hegarty. After several years collecting milk for the Mitchelstown Creamery, he immigrated to NY in March 1958. He planned to make his fortune and return home to Ireland. Never a man afraid of hard work, in April 1962, he picked up an extra shift on his day off as a NY City bus driver. It was more than overtime pay he received… he met his “forever passenger” Maureen on Route 37 in Highbridge, Bronx, New York.

After marrying on October 12, 1963 and spending six years in the Bronx, they moved to Yonkers, NY. Tim hung up his bus uniform in 1980 and successfully ran a few Irish pubs. His first, The Forge in the Bronx followed by the White Horse and Old Blarney in Manhattan and the Cork Lounge in Queens. In June of 2001 he pulled his last pint and stepped from behind the bar for the last time.

He spent the next 20 years summering in Ireland and the Catskill Mountains with Maureen and family. This past summer the entire family returned to Ireland for a tremendous family reunion with over 100 Hegartys gathered again in Dungourney. He remained a proud Irishman his entire life and was recognized by the NY Corkmen’s Association as Corkman of the Year in 2013.

Tim and Maureen, generous hosts to family and friends, always had room at their table for one more and a bed for anyone that may need one. They have a wonderful group of close friends passing that love of friendship on to the next several generations. The American dream accomplished, this big man was ready for a rest, he will be missed by many.

Of all the good times we shared,
I leave to you fond memory.
And for all the friendships that we had,
I ask you to remember me.
And when you sit and stories tell,
I’ll be with you and help recall.
So fill to me the parting glass,
God bless and joy be with you all.
