Wolfgang Gentzsch, Drumullig, Butlersbridge, Co. Cavan – formerly Frankfurt / Chemnitz, Germany. 30/11/1942 – 09/01/2025.

It is with great sadness we announce the sudden passing of Wolfgang, who was beloved friend, outstanding neighbour, and respected member of his community. Wolfgang passed away peacefully at the age of 82 in Beaumont Hospital on 9th January, 2025.

Wolfgang was bigger than life, and yet so private and respectful. He was born in Chemnitz in post war East Germany and saw a lot of suffering, what made him very hard worker and the person that everyone admired. He was a master craftsman who’s eye for detail was beyond precise. A true gentleman and a man of integrity who only ever spoke the truth.

The last 30 years he spent living in a beautiful place in Cavan overlooking the Annalee river. He was surrounded by his friends, his neighbours and visitors from his own country.

Wolfgang is now at peace, joining his grandparents, his dear mother and his beloved aunt Elfriede, other friends and relatives. He is leaving a huge hole in the hearts of all those who were touched by his kindness and who were always entertained by his stories and hilarious sense of humour.

Wolfgang will leave the McMahon Funeral Home,Farnham Road, Cavan on Sunday 12th January at 11.30am and travel Via his home in Drumullig, then on to the Bypass to Lakeland Crematorium for reception and stories of his life at 12noon followed by cremation. Everyone who would like to attend to say goodbye, will be very welcome.
