Acknowledgment and First Anniversary

27th March, 2023

As we remember Donal on the first anniversary of his passing, his wife Arlene, children Seán, Ronan and Emma, together with his mother Benny and brothers Tom and Ken would like to offer our heartfelt gratitude to each and every person who offered condolences, comfort and support to us on our sad loss.

We thank all those who sent well wishes, cards and messages to Donal throughout his illness, all of which meant so much to him. To those who offered both emotional and practical support to us as a family during those difficult months we will be forever grateful.

Special thanks to all at Dóchas, the staff of Tullamore Regional Hospital, the National Ambulance Service, Beaumont Hospital and our dear friend and neighbour Niamh. We will be forever grateful to the wonderful Dr. Larry Bacon and his team in the Oncology/Haematology Unit in St. James’s Hospital for the exceptional treatment given to Donal and the caring and compassionate manner in which he was always treated.

Special thanks also to Dr. Jerry O’Flynn and all at Kilbeggan Medical Centre, Pharmacist and friend, Barbara O’Connell of Dolan’s Pharmacy, Offaly Palliative care Team and the Public Health and Irish Cancer Society nurses, all of whom gave exceptional care and made it possible for us to bring Donal home in his final days and give him the peaceful and dignified passing he deserved.

We will be forever grateful all who made Donal’s funeral the fitting tribute it was. To Phil O’Reilly, Undertaker, for his kindness, compassion and professionalism, Noreen and Joe Rabbitte for the beautiful music and singing, the piper that lead the cortège and Fr. John Stapleton P.P. for his presence and guidance over those difficult days and the beautiful way in which he conducted the funeral mass and also to our wonderful neighbours that lined the road as Donal made his final journey.

Thanks to those that  provided the guards of honour: Clodiagh Gaels GAA Club, Na Fianna Hurling Club, Coláiste  Choilm, the Sacred Heart School and Fianna Fáil. Special thanks to Killeigh GAA Field Committee, of which Donal was a member, for their support and assistance throughout Donal’s illness.

To all who sent condolences, messages, mass cards and floral tributes, thank you. To those who called to our home, attended the wake and funeral, some of whom travelled long distances to be with us, we are so very grateful and appreciative, as well as to the fantastic group of men and women who worked so hard at the house and were so generous with their time, allowing us to cater for the large crowds that attended.

Finally to our wonderful friends and neighbours and extended family that have been such a support to us and have been by our sides throughout Donal’s illness, over the funeral and since, we will be forever indebted to you all. Your kindness, thoughtfulness and generosity will never be forgotten.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgment as an expression of our gratitude. The holy sacrifice of the mass will be offered for your intentions.

Donal’s anniversary mass will take place in St. Patrick’s Church, Killeigh at 6pm on Saturday 25th March.
