James (Jim) GALLAGHER

 James (Jim) GALLAGHER

Carlow Town, Carlow / Dungloe, Donegal

Jim’s wife Marie, daughters Sheila, Fiona, Niamh and Áine, together with his sisters and the extended family wish to thank all those who sympathised with them on their recent sad loss. Thank you to all those who sent mass cards, letters and messages of sympathy, text messages, emails, left messages of condolence on RIP.ie, attended the funeral home, funeral Mass virtually or in person and the burial, and for the ongoing support we all have received since Jim’s passing, Thank you all from the bottom of our hearts.

Our heartfelt thanks to Father Martin Smith for celebrating a very meaningful Mass to mark Jim’s passing and for his support to our family in the days leading up to his final commendation. We are very grateful to Bishop Denis Nulty for praying with us in the funeral home. Thanks also to Father Tommy Dillon and Father Yanbo Chen for concelebrating the Mass and to Father Thomas O’Byrne for prayers at the graveside.

For a few years Jim was cared for at home with the help of Sally Curran and the other ladies in the Home Support Service which was appreciated so much. Jim also enjoyed The Alzheimer Society’s day activation sessions in Barrack Street. Thanks to all the kind people we met there. For the final seven months of his life Jim lived in Hillview Nursing Home where he received such kind and professional care and our gratitude goes to all the staff there.

We appreciate Doctor Ben Parmeter’s and Doctor Joanna Lach’s care of Jim over many years. Also to the staff of White’s Pharmacy under Paul White and now with Orla Brennan.

We extend our heartfelt thanks to our kind neighbours and friends and to his faithful retired Garda colleagues for their loyal friendship, help and support over many years.

To the members of An Garda Síochána who formed a Guard of Honour outside the Cathedral and to the Garda Síochána Retired Members Association who did likewise. Your attendance there for Jim will be forever remembered.

Our gratitude to Bernard & Ollie Hennessy who provided such wonderful music and singing at Jim’s Mass. Thanks also to Administrator Father O’Byrne and the Cathedral staff.

We acknowledge with deep appreciation the staff and pupils of St. Leo’s College who stood in respectful and dignified silence outside the school as Jim’s cortege passed.

To Rory Healy and staff, we will be forever grateful for the compassionate and very professional guidance they gave to our family in arranging Jim’s funeral.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, we trust this acknowledgement will be accepted by all with our sincere appreciation and gratitude.

As a token of our appreciation the holy sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.

Month’s Mind Mass

The month’s mind Mass for Jim will be celebrated on Sunday, January 2nd 2022, at 12.30pm in the Cathedral of the Assumption.
