The loving family of the late Hannah (Joan), Desmond of Maiville Tce, Turners Cross, Cork, who sadly departed on 29/11/21, would like to sincerely thank everyone who sympathised with them on their most grievous loss.

Thanks to all who attended at the funeral home, the Mass and the cemetery, especially those who travelled great distances; we truly appreciated your presence.

We would like to pay tribute to all of Mam’s wonderful neighbours in Maiville, especially Cathy, Ted, Celine, Michael, Helen, Carol, The Presentation Brothers and her exceptional and loyal friend, Phil. Thank you for all you did for Mam.

A special thank you to Joan and William, Mam's beautiful cousins, who were always there for her.

We are profoundly grateful to Dr Frank Hill, Geraldine, Elaine and all at Friars Walk Surgery, Thérèse and her staff at Allcare Pharmacy in Turners Cross, Linda, Marie and the Home Help team, Nikki, her chiropodist, Ian and the staff at Friars Road Post Office, Ann and Phil at Bonards Hair Creations, Evergreen Road; our heartfelt thanks for the many years of kindness and support to Mam.

Thanks to Dr Matthew Murphy, Sinead and Marie at SIVUH, The Mercy Hospital, and the extraordinary Staff of Grange Con Nursing Home who made Mam’s final few months as comfortable as possible.

We wish to acknowledge Mam’s many and great friends in the former Ballyphehane ICA and Active Pulse and Pyke Drama groups for providing Mam and us with so many years of fun and laughter. Thank you for your support, condolences and Masses.

We want to thank all from Turners Cross, The Lough Parish, Ballyphehane, Bandon, Nohoval and Minane Bridge and further afield who sent cards, letters and condolences. We took strength from your words.

We are grateful for all the support from the staff of Cork City Library, St Aidan’s Community College and Eli Lilly respectively, Cork City FC, Nemo Rangers, Bandon and Newcestown GAA  clubs.

A sincere Thank you to Billy, Donal, Lorraine and Suzanne at Sullivans Funeral Home, Turners Cross for the professional and dignified service they provided. Also a special word of thanks to Brendan and Martin for preparing Mam’s final resting place beside her beloved Ted in St Patrick’s  Cemetery, Nohoval.

Finally, and most importantly, we want to express our deepest gratitude to Fr Shem Furlong for the most moving Requiem mass, Eadaoin, Vince and Aoife Delaney, Anne, the Organist and Séan Ó Riordáin, the lone piper for the musical enrichment and everyone else who contributed to making Mam’s final mass so memorable. A special word of thanks to Fr John Paul Hegarty, PP The Lough Chapel, for facilitating  Mam’s wish to have her Requiem mass in the parish of her birth.

To each of you and all of you, we say thanks. A Mass will be offered for your intentions – Gerry, Rose and Ken Desmond

Joan's Anniversary Mass will be celebrated in The Lough Chapel, on 30th November at 10 a.m. and in Christ the King Church, Turners Cross on 29th December at 10 a.m.All are welcome.
