Dearest beautiful Josh,

It’s been three heartbreaking years

To me one long lost lonely day.

Time has no meaning now 

It’s kinder that way.

 

In the kitchen the other day

I thought I heard you walk my way

You opened the door you walked right in

‘Hi dad’ you said with a warm grin

You looked so good I have to say

All my grief and loss just melted away 

In that sweet second as I spun around 

The last three years vanished underground

All energy and life in our home did restore

Our beautiful little family was whole once more.

…. But I turned too quickly

… you are not there .

 

Yet the gift of that sweet second 

reminds me of how we were.

I cherish every memory they get me through my day

all we’ve said and done is always on replay

I can hear you laughing on the phone, chatting making plans.

Your courage and your friendship 

for those who needed you there

You always took time to see who needed your help and care.

 

I need to say your name, Josh

I need to hear it too

To know that people haven’t forgotten

about the wonderful you

To know they see the empty space 

That you alone can fill 

You are not a footprint in the sand 

You lived - you left your mark 

And I’m so very proud of you

 

I live to tell your story 

And talk of all your plans.

I need to say I love you

I know that you stay near 

I know you keep us going

You guide us, thank you dear

I don’t believe this is happening 

I cannot let you go 

I hold onto our yesterday In the hope I can rewind

Until then you’ll stay strong in my heart and mind 

The pain of losing you will never go away

But neither will our twenty years full of life laughter and love

That too will always stay.
