COTTER, Margaret
Attymonmore, Athenry, Co. Galway and formerly of Cullairbaun, Athenry, and Coolcormack, Dungarvan, Co. Waterford
Margaret passed away peacefully, on Sunday, 5th October 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
We the family of Margaret Cotter wish to express our heartfelt thanks and deep appreciation to all who supported us during our recent bereavement.
We are deeply grateful to all who sympathised with us in so many thoughtful ways — to those who visited us, attended Mam’s wake, funeral or burial, sent Mass cards, messages of condolence, and to everyone who kept us in their thoughts and prayers.
Our heartfelt thanks to Mam’s sisters who supported Mam so generously — through your visits, calls, flowers and gifts. Your unwavering kindness, presence, and thoughtfulness brought great comfort to Mam during her illness.
To our extended family, neighbours and friends who travelled from near and afar to be with us, your kindness and presence brought great comfort. Thank you to all who sent donations, flowers, candles and messages, and to those who helped in practical ways at home and during the funeral arrangements.
A special word of thanks to Mam’s medical consultants and teams, particularly Dr. Gregory Leonard, Dr. Habib Rahman, Dr. Brian Egan and Dr. Giuseppe Alfonso; the Palliative Care Team; the staff of St. Joseph’s Ward, University Hospital Galway and Our Lady of Knock Ward, Galway Clinic; the Galway Hospice home care team; Dr. Aisling Grey, GP; and all of the staff at Athenry Health Centre; Madeline McGann, Athenry Primary Care Centre and Marie Philips, Bon Secours Hospital Galway. Sincere thanks to Mam's pharmacist, Keith Hunt, and all the staff at Flanagan’s Pharmacy. Your care, support and kindness shown to Mam throughout her illness will always be remembered.
We would also like to thank the volunteers and therapists at Athenry Cancer Care for their support and treatments arranged for Mam, and for the friendship they offered her.
We would like to express our gratitude to all of the staff of St. Joseph’s Ward, University Hospital Galway for the exceptional care and kindness they extended to us as a family. During Mam’s time there, the team went far beyond their duties - making space for us, supporting us with compassion, and ensuring we were looked after, even providing food and comfort when we needed it most. Their gentleness, understanding, and generosity made an overwhelming time more bearable, and we will never forget the care they showed to all of us.
Our sincere thanks to Fr. Micheál Mac Laifeartaigh, Fr. Charlie McDonnell, and Fr. John O’Gorman for celebrating Mam’s Funeral Mass, and to Fr. Brendan O’Rourke for his support and counsel during Mam’s illness.
Heartfelt thanks to Sinéad Murphy for the beautiful music at the Mass, and to Lizzie Harrison for her great help in preparing the liturgy.
To our neighbours — both past in Cullairbaun and present in Attymon — your visits, support and prayers meant so much. We especially thank the Cullairbaun neighbours and Athenry Craft and Chat Group who formed guards of honour at the funeral home and after Mam’s Funeral Mass.
We would also like to thank Michael John Quinn of Quinn’s Funeral Directors, Athenry, for his professionalism, sensitivity and care; the gravediggers who prepared Mam's final resting place in the New Cemetery; and Flowers by Breda for the beautiful funeral flowers.
As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our deepest gratitude. A Mass of Thanksgiving will be offered for your intentions.
