Mary Kate (nee Byrne)

Derryclaugh, Kiltimagh, Co. Mayo

Died 9th November 2021

We, the family of Mary Kate, would like to express our sincere thanks to all those who sympathised with us and supported us in our sad loss.

Thank you to all who visited our home, sent Mass Cards, letters, telephoned, sent text messages, online condolences, flowers or donated to Mayo Roscommon Hospice.  A sincere thank you to all who travelled long distances, called to the Marian Funeral Home, attended the Funeral Mass and all who joined us in the Mass online.  To the neighbours and relatives who provided food and supported us in so many ways during the wake, we are truly grateful. A huge “Thank You” to the relatives who adorned the roadside with candles to light the way for Mam’s final journey home, we were overwhelmed at the touching gesture.

We want to thank the staff at Mayo University Hospital, especially the nurses and care assistants in the Orthopaedic Ward and palliative care team who looked after Mam during her last weeks.  Our deepest gratitude to the management, staff and chaplain at the Mayo Hospice in Castlebar, for their kindness and compassion to Mam and to us, her family.  Thanks to the wonderful community care team in Kilkelly & Kiltimagh, Gary & Staff in Heneghan’s Pharmacy, doctors and staff at Kiltimagh Medical Centre and also Dr. Ronan Clancy. Our sincere gratitude to Mam's home carers for their kindness, care and attention over the past number of years.

A special word of thanks to Fr. Richard Gibbons for calling to our home and celebrating the Funeral Mass to honour Mam’s long, wonderful life. Thank you to Fr. McNamara, Fr. David, Fr. Harrington and Fr. Paul for visiting Mam each month in her home, this meant so much to her.  Thank you to Claire Lavin for her beautiful singing and music.  To Murphy & O’Brien Funeral Directors, thank you for your kindness, professionalism, guidance and support.  Thanks to the grave diggers for preparing Mam’s final resting place.  Thanks also to Sean and staff of Julian’s of Midfield for the refreshments following the funeral.

To Mams’ wonderful friends and relatives who regularly visited her in her home for tea and a chat, you will never know how much those visits meant to her, your kindness will never be forgotten.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our gratitude.  The Holy Sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions.

Mary Kate’s Month's Mind Mass will be celebrated on Sunday, 12th December, at 12.00 pm in the Basilica of Our Lady of Knock.
