Michael F. O'Donovan

 Michael F. O'Donovan

Ballywalter House, Shanballymore, Cork

Sept 26th 1951 – January 14th 2022

On the first anniversary of Michael's passing, his wife Marian, children Michael, Jean, Des and Ed, and his brothers Billy and John, wish to thank our incredible families, extended families, friends, neighbours and work colleagues for the immeasurable support and compassion bestowed upon us since Michael's sudden death.

We wish to express our deepest gratitude to those who supported us in the initial days in Spain offering advice and help at such a distressing time, those who met us at the airport to bring Michael home, the family and friends that worked hard to prepare our home for an unexpected funeral whilst we were still abroad, all who baked and cooked for us and everyone who rallied us on for the funeral process when we returned home from Spain with Michael. To each person who phoned us, sent beautiful messages, took the time to write their condolences online, attended Michael's funeral from near and afar, sent Mass cards, letters of sympathy, floral bouquets and wreaths, along with a thousand other kindnesses, we thank you all.  Each gesture, however great or small, lifted our spirits at a time of profound sadness, and continues to do so today.

We particularly wish to thank our neighbours who stood outside their homes paying tribute to Michael on his final journey to the church, Shanballymore GAA and Doneraile Golf for the Gaurds of Honours organised.  We wish to thank Bishop Crean for presiding over Michael’s funeral Mass, along with the other priests who celebrated on the day, especially our parish priest, Fr. Aidan Crowley.  We pay heartfelt thanks to our family members Susan O’Keeffe and Ann Linehan who played and sang beautiful renditions of hymns that Michael so enjoyed, enriching the Mass for our family.  We would like to convey our gratitude to Hannon’s funeral home for their guidance and caring professionalism, along with thanks to our sacristan Moss and the gravediggers.

It is impossible to thank everyone individually so please accept this acknowledgement as a token of sincere appreciation and know that your kindness and the many stories and memories of Michael shared with us in the days, weeks and months after his departure will be forever remembered and deeply valued.

Michael's first anniversary Mass will take place Saturday, 14th of January, in the Church of Christ the King, Shanballymore, at 6.30pm.
