On the 4th of September 2024 it will be the first anniversary of the passing of my dad, Mick Molloy, late of Birchall, Oughterard. It has been a difficult year for myself and the family, but on behalf of my brother Kevin, my uncles, and our extended family, and I wish to thank, from the bottom of each our hearts, everyone who has sympathised with us and supported us since our great loss on the 4th of September 2023.
We offer our heartfelt thanks to the many relatives, friends, neighbours, and well-wishers who attended the wake, service, and burial, and who provided emotional and practical support for my family and I during that difficult time. We were truly touched and wish to express our tremendous gratitude to all those who phoned, travelled from near and far, sent floral tributes, wrote beautiful messages and cards, and sent mass cards to us during this difficult period. We also wish to thank those who made charitable donations towards helping those who suffer with epilepsy.
Furthermore, we would also like to offer a special word of thanks to several individuals and groups. Firstly, the staff of Moycullen Nursing Home. They cared for my dad so well in his last years, he was very fond of them all, and we will be forever grateful of the kindness they offered us at the time of his passing. Secondly, we wish to thank the Mayor of Galway County Council and Councillor Thomas Welby for attending the service to support us, as well the thoughtful letter of condolences that my brother and I received from Galway County Council. Moreover, my family and I would also like to thank Councillor Welby for the support he gave my Uncle Chris in setting up a permanent display of my dad’s running trophies and medals at the Oughterard Community Centre. Finally, we would also like to thank those who took part in the guard of honour and gave my father the hero’s sendoff that a world record breaking runner and proud son of Oughterard deserved.
The first anniversary masses for my dad will be held at 19:30 on the 2nd September in the Church of the Immaculate Conception, Oughterard, and at 13:05 on the 4th of September at St John the Baptist Church, Blackrock, Dublin.
All are welcome. God bless.
