FIRST  ANNIVERSARY

 

In loving memory of my handsome Brother Nicholas, whose first anniversary occurs today.

 

You gave no one a last farewell,

Nor ever said goodbye,

You were gone before we knew it,

And only God knows why.

A million times we will miss you,

A million times we will cry,

If love alone could have saved you,

You never would have died.

In life we loved you dearly,

In death we love you still,

In our hearts you hold a place,

No one else can ever fill.

It broke our hearts to lose you,

You didn't go alone,

For part of us went with you,

The day God called you home.

We will meet again someday,

I know in a better place,

I thank God he made you our Brother,

While you were here on earth.

 

I thought of you with love today,

But that is nothing new.

I thought about you yesterday

And the days before that too.

I think of you in silence.

I often speak your name.

All I have are memories

And your picture in a frame.

Your memory is my keepsake

With which I'll never part.

God has you in his keeping,

I have you in my heart.

 

He walks with me down quiet paths,

And speaks in wind and rain.

For the magic power of memory,

Gives him back to me again.

 

Put your arms around him Lord,

Don't leave him on his own.

For today is My Brother Nicholas' 

First year away from Home.
