Noreen Thornton

 Noreen Thornton

Kanturk, Cork

I, Ed Thornton would like to acknowledge all who shared and helped enrich Noreen's life up to her passing August 28 2023. Noreen lived with psychiatric issues from her late teens; her life was further complicated by cancer which struck in 2002. Long term medication takes it's toll, a toll it took with Noreen. Special thanks to extended family, neighbours and friends who saw the person behind the patient when Noreen had dark days.

Her life long passions were music, equine sports, her pets and her deep faith. A music teacher, her students' development under her watchful eye gave her a reason to face each day. Her membership of Duhallow Choral Society and Kanturk Church Choir were lifelines that nourished her social needs. Here she was made welcome and involved, brightening her days and bringing the best of her talent to the fore. Her membership of Duhallow Hunt and Duhallow Pony Club as a youngster fostered her interest in horses and equine pursuits, continuing as a spectator when she was not riding herself.

Noreen always kept a dog;  this gave her routine, exercise and company. Her faith gave her hope in darker times; her role as a Church reader and aforementioned Church Choir membership fulfilled her soul.

Special thanks to all whom she encountered in her daily life as well as all the medical personnel whose expertise helped her live life to the extent she did. Special thanks to the staff of Kanturk Community Hospital whose care , kindness and support helped Noreen through her final weeks. Mary O'Connor, Brigid and Charlie Daly and family are among Noreen's special friends who had Noreen's back in times of need.

To all that attended Noreen's removal, funeral mass and burial,to all who sent messages of condolence on RIP.ie, by phone, text, card or letter, your consideration is must appreciated. To Noreen's Duhallow Choral colleagues who sang at her mass, giving her a fitting final farewell, many thanks. To the priests, undertakers and all at The Vintage , Kanturk for their service and consideration .

Finally to Mary, my wife who in the first six years of our marriage did more for Noreen than I or my brothers managed to do in thirty, I continue to be in awe.

You are all in my thoughts and prayers and may you live healthy, positive lives enriching others as you did Noreen.
