25th Anniversary
In loving memory of Paddy Mathews of Saint Brendan's Road, Farranree
In his youth, Paddy used to work for a farmer and the experience instilled in him a great love of the countryside and animals. He spent his adult working life down the docks like so many men from the Northside and his work lorry would be seen parked in the road each weekday during his lunch break. He also had a singular love of cars and enjoyed driving out the country and around the city in his retirement, although I doubt if he could change a spark plug for you.
He had a generous heart and would bung us pocket money every weekend to spend in the shops or at the cinema.
Paddy was also a great radio fan and would have loved to own and operate an amateur radio receiver of his own so that he could talk to radio enthusiasts all over the world. His Russian though was a mix of mangled metaphors and made-up nonsense that had us all in stiches.
His passing left a great loss in our lives and he will always be remembered with lasting love, affection and laughter by his many nephews and nieces throughout the world.
“Better by far that you should forget and smile
Than that you should remember and be sad.”
