 Pte. Mark Cox

Athlone, Roscommon / Athlone, Westmeath

The family of the late Mark Cox, Athlone, Co. Westmeath who died on 18 th August, 2022
wish to express a sincere and heartfelt thank you to all who sympathised with us on our sad
loss to everyone who attended the funeral, those who travelled long distances to be with
us, and to those who called to the house, sent flowers and cards, made donations to the
South Westmeath Hospice, for phone calls, letters and messages of sympathy and
condolences online.

We are especially thankful to all the hospice support staff who looked
after dad in his final days with such care and compassion for him and for us as a family.
A very genuine thank you to Fr. Declan who celebrated the funeral service and supported
Mark’s family and friends in the time leading up to and following his passing. Your support
went above and beyond the call of your profession and is greatly appreciated by us all.

Thanks also to the singers and musicians, the sacristan, and all the servers from St. Peter
and Pauls Church. Thank you to McNeil’s Funeral Home for helping us navigate this most
difficult time with your professionalism and the kindness you showed to our family. Thanks
also to the gravediggers in St. Ciaran’s Cemetery in Coosan.

A sincere and heartfelt thank you to the town pipe band, the army pipe band, the army
band, the artillery and transport units of Custume Barracks, and to all Mark’s army
comrades who escorted Mark to his final resting place with such dignity and respect.  Thank
you to the transport unit in Custume Barracks for instigating the Company Commander
Challenge for the ‘Pigeye Cup’ as a tribute to Mark.

Thank you to the members of the bikers club who paid tribute to Mark at the graveside.
We would like to thank Mark’s close friends, all our family, friends and neighbours for their
love and support. As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept
this acknowledgement as an expression of our sincere gratitude.

1st Anniversary Mass for Mark Cox will be held on the 19th of August at 6.30 pm in Ss. Peter & Paul's Church, Athlone.
