The family of the late Rodney Horan (RIP) on what would have been his 22nd birthday would like to take this opportunity to thank the many many people involved in bringing him home to us. The sudden and tragic loss of our beloved son, brother, grandson, father, fiancée nephew, cousin and friend has left us devastated.
The support of the services, community, friends, family and neighbours is helping us to continue each day. We would like to especially acknowledge those individuals in the services we got to know so well who supported and helped us and continue to do so. An Garda Siochana including Superintendent Gaynor, Inspector O'Brien, our FLO Angela, Gardai Criostoir, Joe, Mark, Tony and all their colleagues and support units. Sligo County Council Fire Services including Fire Officers Devan, Eugene, Wesley, Alan, Michael and all its members. Oglaigh na hEireann including Lieutenant Dunne, Private McGarry and all its members who joined us during our search. The staff and crew of the Irish Coast Guard Station Rescue 118 (SAR). A special thanks also to all the voluntary crews who joined us, The RNLI, Civil Defence, Moy Rescue, Sligo Sub Aqua Club and Sligo Angling Club.
The week of our search threw so many horrendous challenges at us not least of all the weather which couldn't deter the volunteer searchers, family, friends and neighbours. Special thanks to the Riverside Hotel, Abbey Foods, Flipside, Clarks Butchers, Coola Post Primary School and all the business and friends who kept us fed and warm. Ballast Signs, Clever Office and businesses who printed posters and the ladies who placed them everywhere possible. College friends who led candlelight vigils. The complete stranger to us all, Nick who handed us a key to his home to use the facilities and so so many more, we can't possibly name you all, but will forever remember.
Finding Rodney gave us a sense of relief but we then had to face the pain of saying goodbye to our loved one. Susan from Seán Feehily’s helped us through this with Sinead Conway, Fr. Pat and Deacon Padraig providing lovely ceremonies and comforting prayers. The outpouring of love and support on social media, RIP.ie, from the people who called to see us and those who sent letters and cards of sympathy and condolences was overwhelming.
Thank you to Scoil Ursula and the ATU for the guards of honour, to Sligo Rovers FC where Rodney was a match steward for their 1 minute of silence, Herron Auto, Rodney's employers for closing their business that week to lend us their support. A special mention to Gavin and Karen, for such a beautiful video to remember Rodney's life by. Every single one of you helped, to in some way fill a part of the huge void left in our hearts.
Rodney was loved by so many and will never be forgotten.
From the bottom of our hearts.
Thank You All.
