Thomas Murphy

 Thomas Murphy

Kilbeg, Headford, Galway

Thomas’ wife Mamie and the Murphy family wish to acknowledge everyone who supported and sympathised with us following our sad loss at Thomas' passing on 1st December 2020. A sincere thanks to all who telephoned, called, or sent Mass cards, letters, texts of sympathy, messages on RIP and other social media, or gave floral tributes or food and those who gave donations to Galway Hospice. Thanks also to the Kilbeg Fishing Club and the Headford GAA for the written online tributes paid, your kind words and thoughtfulness were heart-warming.  We are all deeply touched by the many expressions of sympathy and gestures of generosity and kindness shown.

We offer our heartfelt thanks to our extended family, our many good friends and wonderful neighbours. In our sadness, we were warmed and strengthened by the solidarity and dignity shown as you lined the roads and put out altars, (enduring the wind and rain) as Thomas made his final journeys to his Kilbeg home, to Claran church and to Cargin cemetery. Thanks especially to the team of loyal gravediggers who prepared his final resting place, battling against the torrential rain.

A special thanks to Dr Philomena Kerrigan and Dr Val Costello who promptly came to his side in his hour of need, and to our neighbours and workmen Sean and Denny, whose courage ensured we all got our opportunity to say goodbye. Thanks also to the Ambulance Team (ERT), the Doctors and Nurses and staff of UHG as well as the Palliative Care Team for the care given and the accommodation of our family, at such a difficult time. Thanks to James Carey (funeral Director) for his kindness, help and professionalism throughout.

We wish to thank Fr Ray Flaherty and Fr James O Grady who called to the house and prayed with us, and Fr Ray for the lovely mass and homily and graveside prayers. We are also very grateful to Una Conway, the Sacristan, who was so accommodating.

Thomas always felt proud to be part of a caring extended family and his wonderful community – but we were all humbled by the depth of care and thoughtfulness shown by you at his passing.

As it would be impossible to thank everyone individually, please accept this acknowledgement as an expression of our appreciation and gratitude. The holy sacrifice of the Mass will be offered for your intentions. We look forward to the return to normality with the opportunity to celebrate Thomas’ life with a special Mass and get together for relatives, friends and neighbours.
