Second Anniversary

In loving memory of our beautiful Victoria whose second anniversary occurs on 15th April.
Deeply loved, sadly missed and always remembered by her mom, Shelley, sisters, Jessica and Tessa, brothers, Josh and Zane, dads Pieter and Alan and brother-in-laws,Lean and Andrew.

For the unspent moments
in a world no longer ours.

In that world,
we would dance around Tree,
and tell her how much we loved
the spring-ness of her white blossoms.

We’d watch for Woodpecker -
red bright against deep black -
and feed him all the suet he could steal.

We’d laugh at the horses,
kicking up joy at gale force speed,
refusing their supper
for the sheer thrill of being alive.

We’d listen to the river -
its marimba song -
dip our toes,
and drift downstream, together.

We’d keep one eye on Brinnie,
with all her thieving ways,
and love her anyway.

And I would brush your long golden hair,
remind you - again -
to put on suntan cream.

I would make your favourite dinner.
Every day.

Just…
so I could be with you.

Where living without you is…

Not absence.
Not forgetting.
Not even letting go.

But carrying you - spending time with you -
in the way I see the world now.

In blossoms.
In birds.
In rivers that still sing.

In the small, ordinary moments
that were never ordinary
because they were yours.
Because they were ours.

And so I choose to stay.

Still longing -
Still loving you.

But in a different way, where..

next to me,
you are everywhere.

And everywhere…
is you.
