Sincere sympathy to Gráinne on the passing of Emmet Snr..Sincere sympathy to Peter, Gráinne,Vi, Emmet Jnr.,& Bryan on your father's sad passing . He taught me mech. drawing &object and memory drawing at St. Peters . I meet him on a few occasions after leaving St. Peters and he was always a pleasure to meet . A few years ago I had a broken thumb as a result of an equine accident which resulted in me going to Arkeen Hospital where I meet a doctor Emmet Cullen as he resembled his father I asked him was he" a son of the real Mr. Emmet Cullen who had taught me in Summer Hill " . His answer was yes .I knew that I was in good hands. The last time I meet Emmet was at Sr. Vincent's funeral in Clonard .

Sincere condolences to the Cullen family on the sad passing of Emmet. He tried his best to educate me in the late 70's, we both had a passion for Geography which I enjoyed but I must say Art wasn't my thing, and he use to do an evening class for us in his own time!
It use to be fun on a Wednesday afternoon trying to dodge him for a PE class before we got the bus home! Always had time to chat whenever we met out, a true gentleman

On my first day in St Peter’s Emmet extended a warm welcome and helped to introduce me to the spirit of St Peter’s.He was always kind, helpful and a wise counsel when needed. I saw him give that same support to so many others both staff and students over the years and always with good humour. Emmet was a legendary teacher and many others have spoken of his many gifts and talents which were worn lightly and shared with so generously. His good humour embraced every day and lightened many a dull day in the staff room. May he and Fintan continue their musical entertainment in their heavenly home. Travel safely Emmet, we will all miss you.

Sincerest condolences to all who mourn Emmet. I met Emmet when he attended his 60th anniversary class reunion in UCC a couple of years ago. He was first to arrive and we had a lovely chat - & discovered his niece Olivia is a friend of mine. He was a lovely man. May he rest in peace.

I first got to know Emmet as a kind and welcoming neighbour when I was a child growing up across the road, and later as a distinguished geography teacher in secondary school. He was a teacher, a master gardener, an epic yarn spinner and a true gentleman who persevered through tragedy and adversity. My thoughts and love go out to the whole Cullen family at this sad time.

A young green lad from Kerry entered the staffroom of St.Peter's in September '78.Some weeks later a social event ended with 5 of us dining in a Chinese restaurant. Emmet Cullen insisted on paying the bill - us 4 starting out in life,little money, what a gesture-such was the man!.Getting to enjoy the essence of this gifted educator over the next 4 decades was a joy to behold. His capacity as a geography and art teacher is evident from the many written comments. Gifted as an educator, in the equestrian field, behind the 'scenes' of many a fantastic production and at staff social events-from 'turning around ' to 'running 'em in' to Jerusalem, what entertaining!.Emmet loved the craic, loved life and the company of his colleagues. To Gráine and all the family I extend my condolences at this very sorrowful time. Unfortunately I can't be with ye for the final farewell but my thoughts and prayers will be with you all.Emmet ,my friend, Rest In Peace. You will be greatly missed.

He was a fantastic colleague in Coláiste Pheadair Naofa. Always smiling and so very supportive of everyone. His good humour was infectious. His stories and his songs were timeless. So sorry to hear of Emmet's passing. Like so many who have posted their condolences here I was privileged to have been one of his students for geography in the 1970s. While the official course was diligently covered it was his stories of his travels to all parts of the world that made his classes stand out from the rest. A superb story teller he could really transport your mind to some far off country you had never visited such was the detail he brought to those tales. In subsequent years it was always a joy to meet him and chat. Sincere sympathy to all the family on your great loss.

Very sorry to hear the news of Emmet's (Mr Cullen's) passing. I was a student of his in the 70s when he taught me Geography all the way through school. (And the outdoor PE classes too, of course.) I can still remember him talking about the 'Cork to Moscow road' and his stories, whether about Nigeria or budgies, were legendary. Great memories too of rehearsing for operettas in the freezing concert hall with Emmet up on the stage painting a backdrop of Venice or Oklahoma. Such a wonderful teacher!

I first met Emmet as a 2nd year (1968) in SPC. We had him for Mec Drawing and Phys Ed. I was also fortunate to be part of a number of plays and Musicals where he spent long creative hours designing and painting sets.
I was also priviledged to work alongside him for a number of years. I am grateful for his energy, his kindness, his story telling, and his company. He was a good man and our world is the better because od him. Rest In Peace Emmet.

Emmet was a gentleman. He taught me art in St.Peters and also looked after me in athletics. He gave me so much encouragement with my art and I have always credited Emmet with my love of drawing.
