My sincere condolences to the McDonnel family on the passing of Aeneas. I was captain of Arklow golf club the same time Aeneas was captain of Bray. We had some great games together over the following years, he was a true gentleman. May he rest in peace.

It was always a pleasure to encounter Aeneas's sunny and genial personality. His easy and caring conversation inevitably 'made my day', so to speak. I never once met him in bad humour or heard him criticise anybody. Always the good word. He will be much missed not only by Fiona and Sharon and their families. Please accept my condolences and I know that wonderful memories will sustain you in the lonely days ahead.

I was very sorry indeed to read of his passing. It was ever a pleasure to meet and hear the softly spoken voice of Aeneas.
In Virgil's great epic The Aeneid, which tells the story one of the heroes of Troy, Aeneas, the author frequently uses the epithet "pius" to describe him.
In Roman times understood as meaning devotion, duty, loyalty.
My last memory of Aeneas, some years ago now is of his asking me at Bray Library if we had the essays of John D Sheridan. These were once very popular. Aeneas told me that he intended to read them to an elderly resident he was visiting in a Nursing Home.
I reflected how in keeping with Aeneas' kind, caring and thoughtful character.

I had known Aeneas and Deirdre since I was a child, and it was always a good day whenever I would meet them around the town and stop for a chat.
On the last two occasions that I met Aeneas, he was with Fiona; and they were really nice, unhurried and happy encounters, which I shall forever hold dear.

Goodbye to probably the finest Gentleman I have ever met. A big statement ! but a true one .
I first met Aeneas in Bray Golf Club where he was a great help to me. We then discovered that his uncle Aeneas had taught me in School. We became firm friends and he was a good friend who gave me a lot of good advice through the years. Many the day I enjoyed tea in his house with himself and his lovely Wife Deirdre. Aeneas was "old school" , discreet and a great confidant .
God bless you Aeneas, you will be missed but not forgotten, rest easy back with Deirdre.
