So interesting to chat with & listen to his entertaining stories. Being a cousin of our late dad,( Dick), he was an important link in the family chain for us. Take care & God bless, for now

To Teresa and the McCarthy Family Cecelia and I wish to offer our deepest sympathy on the passing of one of life's gentlemen,Billy McCarthy.The memories come flooding back,the great musical Friday nights in Douglas GAA Club,one would almost need to pre book a seat,great memories of those happy musical. The articles which Billy would send to the Douglas Weekly.One sticks out in my mind.Billy's childhood story.His mother's frying pan had seen better days.He went to Piper's Merries with his sister,and two shillings his mum had given him. On the ticket stall he spent the money,and one of the prizes was a Frying Pan , which he ran home with and gave to his mum as a present.Rest in Peace Billy,you were one of Life's nice guys.Deepest sympathy to Teresa and Family.

Billy was a great supporter of the Northside Folklore Project (later the Cork Folklore Project) from its inception in the mid-90s, and contributed many memorable articles to the Project's journal 'The Archive' over the years. So sorry to hear the news. I owe Billy a lot of hurleys (and stories) over the years. The smell of sawdust and refurbished hurleys in the garage was unique and access to the big bag of fixed hurleys was like gold or a Willie Wonka ticket! He truly left a great legacy in Douglas.
