Dear Alice, I have just heard of Brendan's passing. I am so sorry for your loss, having witnessed many times the great love and care he had for you, over decades, nearly as far back as our student years in Galway in the seventies. Your sons must miss their Dad so much. Ann (Avignon)
Brandon was the first person I met when I moved to Ireland, on a rainy Tuesday (as usual) when I walked into Corrigan's looking for a few games of chess. For six consecutive years since then, I always tried to go, and during those years, I got to know Brandon well—even when it was just the two of us during the COVID times.
Brandon was a very kind person to everyone, happy to play a patient game against a novice. He had an exceptional mind and was a real danger on the board; he especially managed to bring out his best play when he started to lose.
He was someone who showed that he lived exactly as he liked: with his family, his books, his art, and his passion for music. I learned so much from him, and over time, he became a very dear friend. He always spoke so highly of his family and how happy he was to have recently become a grandfather.
His passing is a great loss for everyone. My deepest condolences to all the family, especially to Alice.

Condolences Maeve to you and all your family and friends on the passing of your brother. Thinking of you all at this time. May he rest in Peace.
Condolences to the Foreman family. When the Irish Labour History Society was planning to hold its first international conference on ‘The Making of the Irish Working Class’ in 1980, Brendan designed a striking poster which is still displayed in the Labour History Museum in Beggar’s Bush. We chatted recently in the People’s Park about the posters he designed for the Abbey and how he found himself allotted a cupboard from which to work in the Peacock. RIP
As a third-level student, Brendan helped me get my foot in the door with an internship in the Public Communications Centre. He was a really kind, patient, and creative presence for a 20 year old learning the ropes of my first real 'grown-up' job.
My sympathies to all his family. May he rest in peace x

Deepest condolences to Alice and the children and all Brendan's family. Brendan was deep, soft, thoughtful and generous person, a skilled artist and designer, and a wonderful advocate for the world of books. He designed posters and book covers for the Irish Writers Cooperative in the early days and went on to design for the Abbey Theatre. He was a gentle soul and will be greatly missed at his bookstalls and shop and of course by his family. Ar dheis Dé go raibh ar a anam.

A sad, sudden loss. So sorry to hear this Maeve. I hope you, Alice, and the lads are managing ok. I feel myself fortunate to have known Brendan, his quiet wit, that smile always at the ready, well informed observations, modest, not stepping into the limelight. A man of character. His presence will be missed.

Brendan’s graphic designs for the Abbey over a number of years constitutes an impressive body of work and his iconic poster images defined the productions at the national theatre for a whole generation of theatre artists. I was greatly saddened to read the notice of Brendan’s passing on the window of The Village Bookshop. My deepest sympathies to Alice and all the family. I will greatly miss seeing Brendan behind the counter — and our varied conversations. In a world of virtual book sales, Brendan was the real thing. I was privileged to have been one of his customers and to have learned a lot from both the books I bought from him — and from Brendan himself. May he rest in peace.
I am so sorry to hear this news. I knew Brendan through his friend Conor Sheehan and Maeve. A kinder more rounded erudite person you'd be stretched to meet.

It was sometime in the late 1990's when I was working in Trinity Records, Dame Lane. Brendan came in one day to leave in some posters and CD's of Michael Hurley (RIP), whose Dublin gig he was promoting at the time. I only met Brendan on that one occasion, but the memory stayed with me. I was very sorry to have learned of his death when I saw it in the Irish Times, this morning. My sincere sympathies to all his family and friends and to others - who maybe like me - only got to meet him once!
