I have many heartwarming memories of happy times spent with Brendan, my beloved sister Ailis, and my late husband Stephen. We always had fun, craic and laughter, and of course, there was great debate and deliberations between Stephen and Brendan.

Dear Greag, Colm, Breen and the Purcell Family. Our heartfelt condolences to you all at this very difficult time.  Please know you are in our prayers and thoughts.  We all have lots of fond memories of Uncle Brendan and Aunt Ailis.  When we would meet Brendan at family gatherings; he was always fascinated that the “O’Shea Clann” stuck together like glue, he affectionately referred to us as “the Mob”!  In Brendan’s company, many interesting topics would be discussed and dissected with opposing and challenging viewpoints expressed by all parties.  But Brendan always managed to find humour and fun in these debates.  One such occasion springs to mind, when “the Mob” were visiting Cabinteely, and a debate was raging on the importance of the Irish language.  Brendan was an advocate for Irish and hugely passionate about our native tongue.  However, our lovely fluent Italian speaking cousins were giving Brendan food for thought ….. they countered that Italian was more relevant to commerce and business than Irish!  And of course, our Brother Glenn was having his twopence worth and added “now Uncle Brendan, put that in your pipe and smoke it”!  And Brendan, true to form, roared with laughter and conceded his viewpoint a little.  We hope that all of your happy times with Brendan will guide you in the sad days ahead.

Now Uncle Brendan, it's time to rest and join Orla and Ailis.  God Bless.

Breen, Dee, Rían and all the Purcells. We were so saddened to hear about the loss of Brendan. We thoroughly enjoyed many lovely days with him over the years in Carne. He was a true gentleman. He was always so interested in all the children and in particular his kindness shone out as he always had special time for Saoirse. His interest in our lovely language 'An Ghaeilge' always came to the fore when he met me and we always a few words together in Irish. I was so touched when he lent me an old Irish schoolbook that he kept for over 70 years as he appreciated our shared interest in the language. A very sad time for you all he was a wonderful man and you were very privileged to have had him as your inspiration and guiding light.
