I am sorry to hear of Brians death i can only assume Heaven needs to build a new hospital project and a lot of competing interests and groups need to be pulled together and his unique set of skills are required by God . I met Brian first in Murray O Laoire offices approx 1990 as young engineer and that was the start of wofking on approximatley 6 major Hospital projects with Brian his team and his business associates . I have nothing but the fondest memories working with Brian .He was a gentleman it was great and privaleged to work on a team with him .He always challenged the engineering and you had to remain wide awake working with Brian .we used to joke after a hospital client meeting ...Brian got up and spoke ellequently for approximatley one hour ...and then he drew his first breath and continued .He was a master at communication and a master at working with people not to mention his legal .hospital and Architectural skills .May he rest in peace .
Dear Ann, Clare and Katherine, very sorry to hear of your loss. Looking at pictures of Brian he didn’t seem to have aged a day! Both Gillian and I have the fondest memories of lad lane and the time spent in your house and with your family. What we thought then to be a strange place to grow up with so few families living in the city seems now to have been a huge privilege we were lucky to have enjoyed!
May he rest in peace.

Our family is deeply saddened by the passing of Brian O’Connell. Brian was far more than a leader or colleague to Rozalind (Roz) — he was a mentor, a guide, and, in so many ways, a second father. His influence shaped her both professionally and personally, and for that, our entire family will forever be grateful.

Brian’s kindness, his unwavering belief in people, and his extraordinary generosity touched every one of us. He welcomed Roz and our family into his world without hesitation, and showed her the type of loyalty, warmth, and integrity that is rare to find. He became a true and cherished family friend — one whose impact will remain with us always.

We honour Brian’s life, his legacy, and the profound difference he made in ours. May he rest in peace, and may his family and loved ones find strength and comfort in knowing how deeply he was admired and appreciated.

With heartfelt condolences,
The Lieberum Family

So sorry to hear of Brian’s passing. I worked with him on the Tipperary Venue project and always admired his kindness, creativity, and calm way of approaching challenges. My sincere sympathy to all who loved him. Rest in peace, Brian.
This is very sad news indeed, very sad for his family, friends, work colleagues, the architectural world as a whole, to society and for the landscape of the streets, villages , towns and cities of Ireland. Here was a great man. A tireless worker who loved the landscape, history and culture of his country and because Brian had an encyclopedic knowledge on almost any subject, especially History, his work carried great depth. Brian did this at many levels: visually, artistically and intellectually and most importantly with due diligence to its impact on the environment and especially its sustainability. Brian was responsible for many great projects and for our family it was Castlecoote house, its ceilings, doors, astragal windows and towers and of course its new entrance bridge, which arches beautifully and elegantly over the fast flowing river Suck. He will be very sadly missed by all as he battled long and hard against the sickness that derailed him, and It will be a long time before anyone like or close to him will ever pass our way again. Thank you, Brian, for everything, not alone your professionalism, but your enduring friendship and support, may you rest in peace, God bless you, Sincerely Kevin Finnerty & family.
So sorry to learn that Brian has departed this life. He was one of the most erudite people I’ve ever met, with an unusual expertise in both architecture and the law, and I had several enjoyable encounters with him over the years. He will be missed, especially for his deep knowledge of Dublin. Sincere condolences to his family and colleagues in O’Connell Mahon Architects.
I'm very sorry for your loss Claire, and also that of your mum and all your family. May your Dad rest in peace.
