I offer sincere sympathy to the Valkenburg Family on the passing of Buddy. My family from Portlaoise remember Buddy fondly on our many trips to Belmullet in the company of John (Sean) from London. My brother, Oliver and Sean were the best of friends and all the family later became friends. We are all very sorry to hear this sad news. May he Rest in Peace.

To the family of Buddy, you have my sincerest sympathy on his passing.
Every stay to Belmullet was not complete until we visited Buddy, at work. He collected myself and my brother Garret from Dublin once in the 70’s and drove us to Erris to stay with my Uncle and Aunt Pat and Ann (Leech) for our annual summer holidays. I still have a vivid memory of that trip to Mayo (and a car full of stock).
Fantastic character.

The name Buddy Valkenburg was synonymous with Belmullet growing up in our house. A phone call from Buddy meant a news story for our Dad, Liam Molloy, a journalist in Ballina. Buddy was a very good friend too. May his gentle soul rest in eternal peace.
