Condolences to the McKenna family. We were so very fond of Caitríona and spent many happy music trips around Europe sharing her company. Always funny, refreshing and mischievous, her knowledge and understanding of music was wonderful. A proud Monaghan woman, she loved Castleblaney. Rest now Caitríona among your family and the people you loved the best.
We would like to express our sympathy the Mc Kenna Family on the gentle passing Of Caitriona, a much beloved teacher of Music in our ladys Castleblayney
In 1973, Caitriona’s brother, Patrick, brought his wife, Liz, and children, Shane, Louise, Fiona and Martin from Australia to Castleblaney to meet his dad, and sisters, Theresa and Caitriona. As we had no other relatives living in Australia, to meet our Irish family meant so much to us. We all have such wonderful memories from that trip. Each of our family have visited Caitriona over the years and we have seen the wonderful community of family and friends she had in Castleblayney. And as a family we wanted to thank you all for being in Caitriona’s life and to know that Ireland, and in particular Castleblaney, holds a special place in our hearts.
Liz, Shane, Louise, Fiona and Martin

family on her passing. May her gentle soul rest in peace and may her
memory be a blessing.
Mo chomhbhrón ó chroí libh ar bhás Caitríona.

In ainneoin a cuid fadhbanna sláinte, mhair sí saol fada sásúil.

Bhí a diongbháilteacht le feiceáil ní hamháin sa chaoi ar láimhseáil agus ar sháraigh sí a tinneas luath, ach freisin ina cuid oibre mar mhúinteoir agus ina saol laethúil.

Her music was such a large and important part of her life as was her role as teacher. A bit of a perfectionist, that fueled its own expectations (often witnessed at school musicals and shows).

Never afraid to tell it as it was, it’s fair to say she was a one off. A neighbour, a friend, a teacher - she wrote her own book.

I was sorry I was unable to join the funeral in person but I joined on the webcast. The music was a beautiful and apt tribute to her.

May the clay of her final resting place - lie gently upon her.
May your gentle and gifted soul rest in eternal peace- sincere sympathy to family and your many friends 🙏

My condolences to all of Caitriona's family. I will greatly miss her presence in the orchestra. She was so dedicated to the Dublin Symphony Orchestra, being a founding member, and still performing right up to last December!
That fact, gave her and myself great joy.

We shared plenty of witty banter and she was an inspiration to all who took the time to chat with her. She was a true lady, and a fascinating person with many strings to her bow. Such was her determination, that in our last conversation (last month) she expressed the longing to get back playing.

Alas, God had other plans for her. I have no doubt she will be joining us in spirit. Requiem aeternam dona ei, Domine.
I have such fond memories of Caitríona (Ms. McKenna) as a wonderful teacher with so many qualities, inspirational, patient, encouraging and above all a Perfectionist.
She transformed our Choir in Our Lady's Secondary School, many years ago, when we performed in The Old Concert Hall, "Joshua Fought The Battle of Jericho" is one that comes to mind.
Caitríona's friendly presence will be sadly missed in York Street.
May Caitríona's soul rest in eternal peace.

So saddened to hear of Caitriona (Miss Mc Kenna's ) passing.
In recent years, she always took time and a genuine interest in how we were all getting on in life and making connections with us.

She was a lovely music teacher and her classes were a welcome break from the intense secondary school timetable. At the end of each class she would allow for music appreciation ranging from Classical to The Beatles. Whenever I hear Handel's Water Music now, I am transported back to the comfort of that place and time.

She gave so much of her own free time to extra curricular activities such as the musicals and the school choir. I think she even flew in an acclaimed choreographer from England to work with us. I know we tested her patience at times but she was incredibly good humoured and well intentioned.

She was a lady of class, wit and talent. She will be sadly missed.

Go dtreoraí cór na n-aingeal a hanam go neamh.

Deepest sympathies to the family & friends of Ms McKenna on their sad loss. She was an accomplished, elegant lady who introduced us to the world of classical music and had high expectations of our own singing in choirs that were very successful, under her baton. We know we caused her some frustration, at times, but I hope she knew we were always grateful that she shared her talents and energy over her long years in Our Lady's. Her faith in us is rewarded in lives enriched by music and singing, to this day. St Cecilia, patron saint of music & musicians, pray for the repose of her soul. Amen.

My deepest condolences on the loss of such a dear lady. I studied music with her as my teacher for 6 years. When sitting the leaving cert you had to perform as part of the exam. We only had one person who could play an instrument and we had one singer in the class. So she taught the rest of us how to play the tin whistle! God bless her patience and hearing. She will be greatly missed. xxx

A wonderful teacher, always ready for a chat and with an infectious laugh and sense of humour. A delight to meet. Catriona (unfortunately sometimes) remembered us as children and had many stories to tell of the way we behaved. She and my late mother have a great deal of catching up to do. Heaven's gain is Castleblayney's loss. Tá sí imithe ar shlí na firinne.

Larger than life, she gave so generously of her time to support, guide, and uplift others. In the days ahead, I’m sure many wonderful stories and memories will be shared by past colleagues and former pupils. A walk through the corridors of our school offers just a glimpse of the rich legacy Catriona leaves behind. Her love of and passion for music shone through in her extraordinary work with the school choir and musicals. Catriona’s dedication and infectious enthusiasm brought joy to countless students and audiences alike, creating memories that will last for years to come. May Catriona rest in eternal peace.

Caitríona was engaging company. Many will miss her educated, articulate and witty conversations. She was determined in all that she held dear, especially music. But she also haboured great affection for her past pupils.

She was a talented musician and genealogist who shared her knowledge willingly and widely.

We had many fun moments on our European Music Trips......but Castleblayney was always No. 1 in Caitríona's view!

Rest gently in the loving arms of your God Caitríona!
