Just got the sad news of Michaels death today. Condolences to the McDonagh family and may he rest in peace.

I was saddened today (05 April) to hear belatedly through a McKee Officers' Club circular of Michael's death. I am sorry not to have been present at his funeral.
Meeting Michael was always a pleasurable experience. He was great company. For him, life was one great adventure.
What a sad time for Gretta and Family! My heartfelt condolences go to them on their great loss.

I was saddened to hear of Mick's passing. A true gentleman, whom I had the pleasure of meeting - many moons ago - when he organised & lead various ski trips! A beautiful skier whom passed on his knowledge & encouragement to us mere mortals - and, to this day, I think of him as I continue to enjoy the slopes & pass on his technique, as best I can, to others! A fitting tribute to him is that, the day he passed, I was doing just that on the slopes in the Dolomites. Rest in Peace, Mick

He was an extraordinary man and much adored by us, his family, but also a great friend and influence on so many, far and near during his countless adventures. Thank you to everyone for helping us mark his life and his great spirit with joy and love and for sharing the loss of his passing.

Our sincere sympathy go to you and the family, including Don, Mairead and Patricia on the passing of Michael. Since coming to Ballinclea Heights many years ago, you, Michael and your family have enriched our lives in many ways with your wonderful company, hospitality and friendship. Apart from his successes in the Defence Forces and in the Department of Education, Michael made an enormous contribution to the local Community via the Resident Association, Rocheshill Protection Association and much more throughout Ireland. We will miss Michael's fun and good humour but we will celebrate all his achievements as well as his courage such as taking on the hill in his skis.

Mick was our neighbour for 27 years and what a fantastic neighbour! Always entertaining and a one-off. We will miss the chat, tours of the amazing garden and cottage, recital of poetry, singing, reading from his books and general craic (often expressed through Irish, German and French!). He will be missed by ourselves and our daughters.

Very sorry to hear about your father's death, Mick. I remember meeting him at Phoenix where he sat chatting one afternoon to Mick Dargan. He may have been a good age and have lived a long and full life - but there is still loss and a gap for those left behind. There's no good age to lose a parent. in many ways, the longer you have them, the more you miss them. My condolences to your mother and family, and especially to Alison, James, Louis, Sophie and Lucy.

Michael's contribution to the development of PE in Irish Schools was immense. As a result of Capt McDonough work, I was awarded a scholarship to study P.E. in Strawberry Hill, London in 1971.
I am eternally grateful to him for that. 🙏

What a legend Mick was - from the partying, to the wise words he'd pass you, to the generosity, to the songs, to the stories.
Exemplified by a week of skiing we did a decade or so back at Brides les Bains - 84 years old, must have been near the most senior on the slopes, giving it loads, no matter if it's heavy off piste, falling over, plough on! To an impromptu 'play' he orchestrated involving 2 halves of a 20-person Gondola up the slopes for 10 minutes. Everyone Enraptured. Hilarious.
