Charles Mortell

Charles, a lovely gentle man, was a guest with Margaret at my mother's 100th birthday party in Clonmel. My mother held him in great esteem and was very honoured that he attended her party and thereafter she always enquired about him with fondness. My condolences to Margaret, to Eamonn & Gwen and the extended O'Mahoney and Mortell families on their very sad loss. May his gentle soul rest in peace.

Sincere Condolences to Mr Mortell's wife and family. What a huge loss to Local History as well as a personal loss to those close to him. Charles graciously agreed to speak to my Social Education class at Davis College only a few weeks ago, and kindly donated copies of the Field Journal to our Library. He was a warm and wonderful speaker, and his anecdotes and witticisms will always be remembered by our group. He was so anxious to get the next generation interested in Local History, and inspire a sense of community and pride in all. Rest in peace - a scholar and a gentleman.
