Deepest sympathy on the sad passing of Daniel. Ar dheis Dé go raibh a anam.
You chose well in life.
Always loved meeting Dan. A great character. Farewell
Nice man always cheerful and welcoming on my visits to Sheepshead as a youngster in the 80’s 90’s & 00’s
Thank you for your friendship Dan.

Jerry Kelleher,
you said it right in one sentence:
Dan lived his life on his own terms.
There's nothing to be added.

Hummel is the German word for bumblebee and a bumblebee visited me on the day of your passing. I strongly believe it was you, Dan.
Thank you for being my neighbour on
the Goat's Path for so many years.
See you later, Dan!!!

My condolences to his family and friends.
I didn't know him very well but have very fond memories of meeting him once in a while, going out to his place for a TGTG party, soaking up the amazing natural beauty of the place and creation that he cared for. He brought a exotic newness to many and was very generous in sharing his place and experience.
May you expansive journey continue.

Sincere sympathies to the Hummel family on the passing of Dan. May he rest in peace.
Have some lovely memories of visiting Dan down through the years. What an inspiration he was to all who had an interest in living close to nature. He certainly showed how it could be done in Glanroon. What a beautiful place and so heartening to know it’s going to be preserved. He deserved that. His creative spirit will live on there. What a creative and inspiring life you led Dan. May you rest in peace now.
Rest in Peace Dan. Condolences to all who loved him. A very unique and interesting man who lived an exceptional life. I have fond memories of visiting Dan's place on the Goat's Path as a child and was so inspired to see what was possible - he really created a haven for himself and the community. I remember someone pitched a tent on the grass roof of his simple but beautiful stone house!
Dan was an individual, international person, and talked enthusiastically about places like China. But I just knew him as a friendly guy on a bicycle, hot-tub gatherings on the Sheeps Head and meeting us all in Bantry market for great conversations.
The first time I saw Dan was in 1987. He was an unusual sight with his long blond beard, bald head, riding his bike into bantry wearing his signature shorts exposing his strong tan legs. Not long later I became his friend and spent many memorable times in Glanroon helping Dan with keeping up his place and enjoying his hot tub and sometimes staying at Glanroon on my own for a retreat, while looking after the place. There were many memorable community gatherings and Dan loved sharing and showing off his end of the earth paradise that he stewarded and created with many long days of physical work. He took thousands of photos documenting all and I'm really sad that these were not preserved.
I always felt being Americans in Ireland gave us a special connection.
I am grateful for what he created. He was a pioneer in his own way.
Thank you Dan. Rest in peace.

Sad to see you go mate, hopefully to a better place.
Really without Dan there wouldn’t have been a Yumi Yuki Club. His benevolence and deep cultural knowledge brought us as close to Japanese source as Cork could then. I first met Dan in the 90s when I came to Cork where we shared many good nights and times and also off the Goats Path. In his late years Dan thought I was Japanese & a bringer of his saké. I’m glad I could return this joyful illusion in some small way.
Rip Dan glanroon is like a different world where time forgot
News of Dan’s passing brought back
indelible memories of his hospitality
in Glenroon forty years ago.
A serving of peppermint tea
was a welcome change from the usual.
The same could be said about the host.
He was “Windswept and Interesting”.
Here and now, we’re basking in glorious
July sunshine on Sheep’s Head.
Bantry Bay sparkles and dances farewell.
I’ll let an Irish poet have the last word
of goodbye to one of our own;
“Some green hill where shadows drifted by,
Some quiet hill where mountainy man
hath sown and soon would reap;
near to the gate of Heaven"

Sending love and deepest sympathy to all Dans friends and family, he was a wonderful person and mighty man.
I have a such wonderful memories of staying at his beautiful Nature reserve at Glanroon, hanging out sipping tea in his magical house, luxuriating in the Japanese hot tub and gardens by the Atlantic Ocean on beautiful summer days and round the fire under the stars with friends.

Fondly remembered ruth and mick
Dan opened his extraordinary home at Glanroon to so many of us. His " thank god theyve gone" parties every September were community celebrations. Hiking out to visit Dan on misty wet west cork days to sit by the stove with tea and share stories. Thank you Dan for so many beautiful memories and summer evenings soaking in the hot tub, probably the first in west cork! Fly free and light Dan.
A very interesting and extraordinary person who lived life and seemed to crave community. Thank you for the amazing peace and wildness of your home on the sheeps head. As a group of wild women we had some fantastic crazy times in the sanctuary of your beautful home.
May you rest in peace Dan
