I saw the announcement as I was scrolling randomly on LinkedIn, I was shocked to say the least as I raced to confirm it's indeed him!

I worked with David In Pobal for 3 years, he was nothing but a class act and a likeable presence. I am very saddened by his passing, and I will be having mass shortly, and during this whole week for Easter, I will be mentioning him in my prayers, may he rest in peace.

My deepest condolences to the O’Connor family. I got to know Dave about 20 years ago working in Vulcan. He was always such a lovely presence, both in work and outside of it. Calm, funny and kind. So many brilliant memories of him over the years, but a lovely one is of the sports and social trip to the Aran Islands. Just so shocked and saddened that he has passed. Rest in peace Dave.

I only heard the news today and was so shocked and saddened as you were such a part of the blackrock swimming community always down there with a smile and hello for everyone. Remember foundly having many a chat and laugh with you and will always keep you in my thoughts when swimming especially. Hope you’re at peace.

Sincere sympathies on your loss. We only got to know David on Friday mornings over the past year through a group of friends dipping in Blackrock.

From the first introduction, it was obvious he was gentle, friendly, and easy-going. Our brief conversations each week were a highlight: the sea conditions, how lucky we were to dip at Blackrock, and the latest Manchester Utd results. I also remember his excitement last year in the run-up to the Oasis concerts; he would count down the days like someone waiting for Christmas, telling us '10 more sleeps.' It was lovely to see that energy from him.

His kind presence will be deeply missed. Sincere condolences to all of David's family and friends.

I met David in 2007 through my now husband, Chris Barrett. DOC and I spent many a nights out in Galway and Chicago together, went to several Oasis concerts, attended a multitude of weddings (including my own), and just had great funny conversations. David was the kindest and smartest guy anyone could meet. Rest in Peace. You will be sorely missed.
