We are very sorry to hear the extremely sad news of Declan’s passing. Sincere condolences to Cillian and Laoise and their mother Kay, our thoughts and prayers are with them during this very difficult time. We also extend our deepest sympathies to Declan’s sisters and brother, Kieran, Deirdre, and June on the tragic loss of their brother. My late father Tom used always enjoy Declan’s great sense of humour and fun when he used to travel together with the Newman family as they went on their summer holidays to Owenahincha many years ago. May Declan rest in peace.

On the few occasions I ventured to Lough Hyne for a swim, Declan was so very welcoming making everyone feel included and part of the gang. He had such a generous heart and was always the first to reach out to share the flask of coffee and the slice of cake. He is such an immense loss to all, friends, family, the community around Skibb and of course the lappers. To those of you who loved him and miss him greatly, we are thinking of you at this time.
