Sincere condolences to the McDowell family on the recent passing of Denis (RIP).I have fond memories of his cruel slice on the tennis court and the many Friday night dinners in Fitzwilliam when we attempted to solve the troubles of the world.. He will be sadly missed by all who had the privaledge of knowing him.

I extend sincere condolences on Denis’s passing to the McDowell clan on both my own behalf and on behalf of different generations of the Dempsey family.

Denis was a great friend and classmate of my uncle Gerry and one of the originals in St Michael’s College in the 1940s.

I had the great pleasure of Denis’s company, along with my father and uncle at the 75th anniversary of the school in 2019. It was a lovely occasion sweetened further by Denis’s bonhomie and repartee. Gifts he has sowed widely in the McDowell family.

Denis was a once off and he an Catherine were the golden couple of our era. My favourite Denis was that when he came for lunch/dinner he brought the ’thank you’ note with him “to save the stamp”. There will never be another like him - sadly missed.
