To Margaret and family
We were away and on our return this weekend we heard of Derek’s passing. No words can give you comfort on the loss of such a kind and wonderful man. Derek was a giver and a fighter and an amazing person and will be missed by everyone who knew him.
Our deepest sympathy to all of you and we are proud to say we knew Derek.
We were heartbroken to hear of Derek’s passing. Although we only had the chance to speak with him briefly over a video call, it was immediately clear what a true gentleman he was. His warmth and kindness came across even in that short moment, and we can only imagine how much love and joy he brought into the lives of those who knew him best.

We were touched to learn about the way he shared his humor so generously, always joking and lifting the spirits of those around him. His dedication as a sports coach for children with special needs speaks volumes about his character, as does his incredible achievement of breaking a Guinness World Record with 79 soccer games won in a row. These are not only remarkable accomplishments but also reflections of the passion and heart with which he lived his life.

Please accept our deepest condolences. Though we did not know Derek well, we feel the loss of such a wonderful man, and our thoughts and prayers are with your family during this very difficult time.

Dear Margaret and family it was with shock and great sadness to hear of Derek's passing. I met Derek through my mother Eileen Carroll. My mother was a very good friend and neighbour of Derek's late mother Cora. Derek was so kind to my mother, he looked out for her and voluntarily looked after her garden. He was instrumental in safeguarding the lanes behind all the houses on Kinvara Avenue which was a great source of security for my mother. Derek was a true gentleman and so kind and did so much not only for the avenue but for the wider community. He will be sadly missed by so many.
