My earlier memories of Derek are of him sitting at his desk, looking impeccably dressed, and very professional, but always with a friendly smile and a bit of chat as I would call up to say hi to Auntie Laura. More recent memories of Derek were of the lovely lunch we had together with him and the family, in Karen’s last year, all of us laughing together and just enjoying each other’s company.
