Dear Marjorie, David and Rachel and Family
I was very saddened to learn of Derek's death. I have very fond memories of The Evan's family in Innyard and Fethard for many years and indeed only in September last year Derek and Marjorie visited Mam and My late Dad Declan in Innyard. Dad always looked forward to trips out on his boat with Derek and The Master Angler Event in Fethard was a great weekend, many moons ago. Dad also looked forward to reading Derek's Angling notes in The Irish Times on a Saturday. May your memories sustain you through this time of grief and hope to see you in the Summer Months in Fethard for a cuppa and a chat.

Sincere Condolences - Derek wrote wonderful and cherished articles about work my late father Patrick O’Molloy did on the Liffey, they shared a passion for the waters and wildlife of Ireland.

Marjorie, David, Rachel and family, so sorry to hear now of Derek's passing. We have many fond memories of Derek at Fethard Quay on and off the Baginbun, and the occasional rowboat!

Always enjoyed the chats with Derek, in person or on the phone. His huge interest and dedication to getting it right in his gentle convivial way meant he was always great to talk to. Always very helpful and a genuine and very interesting person - I was sad to learn of his passing. Sincere sympathy to Derek’s family and his extensive network of friends.

To Majorie and family. Just back in the
country and sad to learn of Derek's recent death. Over the years, we fished together many times here and on angling junkets abroad, including Norway and Finland. Our last outing together was during the CWAA inaugural C&R competition in October 2023. We always got on well together and had plenty of chat and fun. He will be missed. David.

Deepest sympathy from me and my sons to Marjorie and his extended family on the death of Derek. He made the boys very welcome on outings by the Irish Times Sea Angling club and was extremely generous in sharing his expertise. It was no different when we shared a boat on Loughs Melvin and Conn and when we competed for glass-wear on put-and-take fisheries. A lovely man.

It was with great sadness that I have just heard of the passing of my former colleague Derek. Having worked together in both Jervis Street and later in EPC in Coolock we had some good times. My condolences to all his family and friends may he Rest In Peace.

I worked with Derek for many years in EPC. He was always courteous and appeared unflappable when all around were in crisis. I greatly appreciated his comradeship. Not a bad footballer either.

Derek was a pure gentleman, full of knowledge on all things fishing and it was a pleasure to be in his company both on the lake and afterwards in the evenings on our annual trip to the lake of menteith. Both myself and all the lads will keep him in our thoughts on our next trip to Scotland as he will be missed.

Condolences to Majorie and Evan family loss of husband and father rip derek

Deepest sympathy to Marjorie and the extended Evans families on the passing of your beloved Derek a true gentleman. It was a privilege to have known Derek who was always willing to assist local community and sporting organisations in various capacities over the years. I have great memories of our regular meetings on the beach in Portrane as he exercised the dog. I deeply regret that I will be unable to be present at the Church Service on Friday however you are all in our thoughts and prayers at this difficult time. May Derek now rest in eternal peace.

Worked with Derek in The Irish Times. He had a great calmness about him. As a swords man myself, I also shared the bus home a few times with Derek. He always had lovely words about his family. Rip.

Over 50 years ago I first had the opportunity to work with Derek in EPC and subsequent to that in The Irish Times. I remember him well as one of life's great gentlemen, forever calm and unflappable. I am saddened to hear of his passing. May he rest in peace.
