Des (Desi) Kenny

So very saddened to hear of Desi’s passing. What a truly lovely, warm, witty, knowledgeable and funny man. It was an honor to have known and worked with him, he was always so happy and up for a laugh. He will be very much missed by all who have had the pleasure of knowing him. My sincere sympathies to Anne, Deirdre, Des Jnr, Aishling, Eimear and all of the extended Kenny family. Thanks for all the lovely memories Desi, you were one in a million, may you now rest in peace.

He was a great man and will be sorely missed. I had only brief interactions with him (about books) but his personality shone through. He told my mother a story about a time I, as a foolish student, bought more books than I could physically carry home, long after it happened. I was amazed he remembered. He had a kind word for everyone.

Our deepest sympathies to Desi’s family, friends and colleagues. His brother Tom especially that I first met through the bookshop and gallery, having being thoroughly vetted in advance by Mrs Kenny who turned out to be a big fan. Desi’s passing is a huge loss to the book world. In recent times he gave our imprint’s titles ‘shelter from the storm’. A savvy, knowledgeable and passionate bookseller he was the best of company to meet and have the chat. He championed a world where putting books in people’s hands mattered.

Sincerest condolences to the Kenny family. I always enjoyed talking books with Des; always lively, always engaging, always came away the better for time in his company. So grateful, too, for his many encouraging words when I was taking my first tentative steps as a writer. Dors bien, Des.
