all of the Kavanagh family and to Des’s many friends on their sad loss.
Mr. Kavanagh, as I knew him, was my orthodontist many years ago. I always remember him being a kind and pleasant man.
One Christmas Eve around 1980, my brace snapped and stuck into my cheek. My mother rang Mr. Kavanagh and he said to come into his office in the Cresent and he would fix it for me.
We met him there, accompanied by an other gentleman. They weren’t bothered that their Christmas Eve was interrupted.
He was so kind. He promptly fixed my brace, he didn’t charge my mother and he also gave me a fiver - which was huge at the time! I often thought of Mr. Kavanagh over the years and wished him well.
May his kind soul rest in peace.

So sad to hear this news. Des was an absolute gentleman. I’ve such fond memories of him when I was knocking around in Galway in the 80s. Always a smile on his face and a warm greeting. I remember when I got into medical school, he gave me 10 quid. I literally almost fainted.
