Malcolm and I were great friends in the old Bish Prlmary school in Nun’s Island. I well remember him setting up a boxing gymnasium at the rear of his home at Nile Lodge. We offer sparred together in the ring though I was a bigger boy than Malcolm.
We went right through Primary school together but after that we went out separate ways. I stayed at the Bish , second level right through to Leaving Cert but unfortunately Malcom had gone to boarding school. We both had a huge interest in professional boxing, read the weekly Boxing News from cover to cover each week.
Unfortunately, we never met up again, I departed Galway in 1964, never to return. Malcolm went in a totally different direction.
Will always have very fond memories of those early years.
Rest easy, my old friend.

Dr. Little , was a paediatrician in University Hospital Galway . In 1984 I was an NCHD on Dr. Ernest Egan’s Consultant Haematologist team who cared for children with leukaemia . Dr. Little was remarkably supportive to me trying to do bone marrow aspirates on the tiny tots . I was being asked to do a bone marrow on a 9/12 old baby boy with an inherited defect of Red blood cells . He told me to take a tibial aspirate .
I was stunned by his interest and support to a young Dublin Doctor . I am indebted to his kindness and knowledge . May he rest in Peace . Dr. Fiona O’Flanagan ( married name Donnelly ) Castleknock, Dublin 15 .
